your guide to the best and latest in children's fashion

We are so excited to have the lovely Harriet, mother of 2 year old Robert, writing as today's guest blogger! I was lucky enough to be invited to Robert's 2nd birthday party this fall, which was -- you guessed it! -- truck themed! Harriet is a hostess extraordinaire, so the theme was pulled off beautifully, down to the mini hard-hat adorned cupcakes. Today Harriet shares her thoughts on Robert's love of trucks, as well as his favorite truck toys and books. Enjoy!

There is something that happens to little boys some time between the ages of 18 months and 2 years. I don’t know if it is just in their DNA, or if they learn from their environment, but little boys all seem to develop a love affair with trucks. And my son Robert was no exception. In fact, I think he fell harder and faster than anyone I know, but maybe every mother says that. Although he cannot (or should I say chooses not to) even say his own name properly, the word “backhoe” flows off his tongue like honey.

We must have hundreds of trucks, big and small, cluttering our New York city apartment. Not only that, but we have enough truck books to fill a library.

Because Robert's love affair with trucks only seems to be growing, it has forced the rest of us to jump on the bandwagon. I have no idea if it will ever come in handy to know the difference between a backhoe and an excavator but I can now say I know the difference.

For mothers of toddler boys out there, here are a couple of our favorite toys - Robert loves these and I'll bet your sons will, too!

Melissa & Doug Car Carrier (Robert’s current obsession!)

This truck is ready to get revved up and go. With its "easy-load and lower" ramp, it can pick up four colorful cars and get them safely to their destination. Like Robert, your little trucker will love hitting the road with his new toy.

Bruder's Roadmax Series
is perfect for 2-year-olds.  With many realistic functions for playing fun, his imagination can run wild with these toys. Like this Backhoe Loader, he can pretend play and create a construction zone that only he can conquer.

Trucks aren't just for playtime. We love reading about them, too! These books are currently sold out but will be back at Bundle soon! Check them out here:

Seven popular vehicles grumble, roar, and crunch their way through this very simple, graphically appealing board book, "Trucks Go". Perfect for the young truck enthusiast.

From the station wagon to the bulldozer to the tow truck, we've got you covered. It's no wonder Robert loves this Richard Scarry book and your little one will, too! As the pig family heads to the beach, they come across every vehicle imaginable and unimaginable (from the pumpkin car to the broom-o-cycle). Let your imagination run wild in this detailed, photographic book. You'll find a new story every time you turn the page.

In this sweet story by Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemesha, a boy's imagination runs with him as he pretends to drive a great big digger, scooping and pushing mud to make a playground for his baby brother.
